Water Leak

Our 03 Contessa has a water leak that shows up above the door. All the trim above the door has been removed and resealed. Anyone else had a leak that showed up here?

Bill our 02 Patriot had a leak there. When we had it in for service they resealed around the front clearance lights, air horn and the wind anemometer for the awning. We were never sure which was the cause but it has never leaked again.

The most common cause for a water high in the front of a coach is a crack (sun damage) in one or all of the clearance lights. Sealing around the clearance lights is only a temporary repair. If the clearance light lenses have sun cracks in them you can cover the cracks with clear silicone sealer as a temporary repair, but you should replace them as quickly as you conveniently can.

If you are going to replace the cheap clerance lights consider the LED ones as they are under $10 each and much better quality than the flimsey ones that are OEM. We bought ours from a Truck Chrome Shop. Get the ones with a black and white wire and not the screw grounded ones.

We have an 01 Monterey that had the same problem.  We had the repair shop in Bend reseal the door, lights & add additional gutter drain.  Still leaked.  Richard at Bend RV Repair finally determined the water was coming from our Girard awning.  He removed it, resealed and put it back in place.  NO MORE LEAKS.

Had the same thing above the door. Removed the closeout strip and found the water was coming in on one screw so removed it, coated the head with clear silicone and put it back. No more leak.

We had a massive water leak above the door of our 07 Contessa.  Water would pour in under the overhead dash cabinets on the passenger side and could hear water sloshing back and forth in the wall above the door.  After many visits to the service center in Ind., finally persuaded them to remove the awning over the door and seal all openings.  There is a hole in the wall for the wires which control the awning motor that was not sealed.  They had to remove the door casing to remove the water from the wall.  It has now been a year since the repair and all is well.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm in the process of trying to find this leak by using some plastic (drop cloth) and tape to seal off likely areas of leaks. Right now the one touch awning, solar panel, and a/c are sealed off waiting for rain. Miss. gulf coast.

Why wait for rain... just get up on the roof with a hose.

Rain was forcast for the nite and next day after I sealed off the mentioned items. Also the water pressure here is very low resulting in very little volume. I have found other water leaks using this method and a water hose, but under different cicumstances.
