Huricane Heater Plumbing
« on: September 17, 2013, 01:22:57 PM »
Hi everyone,

The plumbing from the 120 v hot water tank to the hurricane heat furnace is wrong.
This is on a 1999-2000 Beaver Monterey
Could some one tell me the correct plumbing setup?

Thank You All

Tom,
There are several things that need to be taken into consideration to determine the correct plumbing route for your Hurricane. Does your coach have an electric water heater, engine preheat, or a Comfort Hot system?

here is the pic

Does your coach have an electric water heater yes
engine preheat yes
A Comfort Hot system yes - I think that is for the coach with the hot water/blowers

If the pic doesn't get there I will send another

I think the feed from the potable into the heat exchanger is wrong. The non potable all looks correct

I think the potable (feed)should go into the 120 v hot water heater (feed side)
THEN out of the HW heater (supply side)into the feed side of the heat exchanger system
THEN out to the hot side of the faucets

Does that make sense?

Thank You

Tom

Tom & Pam

To make sure I have the correct routing of the feed/supply and service of the hot water to the hurricane heat system for efficient coach heat

Thank you

I also think the lines are backwards.  On mine, the supply to the HW heater comes from the heat exchanger, to the cold water inlet. On the other hand, perhaps mine is backwards, but the aguastat is on the cold water supply and....just perhaps it would work better on the HW out side.

I don't think there's anything wrong with his lines; they're exactly like mine and mine work fine.  The hot fluid from the Hurricane goes to the heat exchanger and then to the hot water tank.  The potable goes through the heat exchanger for pre-heating and then it goes into the hot water tank.  His Aquastat is exactly where mine is, on the output side of the hot water tank; when the output falls below the set temperature the Hurricane turns on.

Tom,
Hookup looks correct. Water input is in to heat exchanger, then out to water heater then to coach. Antifreeze runs from Hurricane to water heater then to H/E then back to reservoir. I'm installing new heater and H/E so have been spending a bit of time on phone with Jim Rixen to ensure correctness. If you've got ?s don't hesitate to call them. Very helpful.

Tom,

I replaced the original heat exchanger(leaking) with a brick style so the connections to,it versus what you have will appear different.
Mine comes out of Hurricane to the water heater and then to the heat exchanger.

Not sure if this is correct, but it works very well. No issues.  Had to replace water heater last year started leaking.
