I replaced the cracked front defroster vents on our 01 Contessa, being careful not to overtighten the hold down screws, as I was sure that some heavy-handed tech was the cause of the cracking. After a year or so, they also cracked. So, when faced with cracked vents in the Marquis, I took a different approach. We'll see how it works. I used pine screen stock, mitered them fit, radiused the corners. and sanded the corner radi to match the stock edge radius. I was a little concerned about the pine matching the existing interior wood but found that Zar cherry stain works very well. Then I applied 3 coats of gloss amber spar varnish (Ace HW). Overall we're pretty pleased with the outcome. Since the coach is garaged when not in use, I think the wood and finish will stand up for quite awhile.
BTW, I'm making progress on repairing the burned bedroom ceiling. BCS had the fabric. Right now I'm working on getting the smoke smell out of the OSB ceiling panel using vinegar. Slow but seem to be making progress. I plan to seal it with Kilz or Zinnster. If anyone knows a better approach let me know. The panel is 5' x 7' so not readily available at lumber supply stores.
