Favorite RV Park Near Mesa Verde NP?
« on: October 04, 2014, 03:44:42 PM »
Bill and I will be exploring the Mesa Verde area on our trek to Kerrville  We've stayed before at the Ute Mountain RV Park but are looking for options closer to the national park this time.  Any suggestions?
Thanks!

BJ,
The Grand Circle Rally used Sundance RV Park in Cortez for our Mesa Verde stop. It is about 10 miles from the entrance to Mesa Verde. It is not ultra fancy, but it is a nice park.

We stayed at Sundance also, and it was very fine.  They are running full so call soon.  While there make sure you visit Anasazi Heritage Center.  We enjoyed it a lot.  Also look into Hovenweep.  We couldn't make the walk.  If you can't get in, you can take the drive back from Durango.  We stayed at Aspen Rose as did the rally.  If in Durango, lunch or dinner at Ken and Sues is a must.  Great food at an extremely reasonable price.  If in Durango and you do the train, we would do train one way and bus the other.  Sit on the right going up and left coming back.  The park has dog walking service.

Thanks to Gerald and Mike for great info and ideas.  We pulled into Sundance RV Park in Cortez this afternoon.  Space 27 on the end is very nice, private, and plenty long for us.  We have two days to explore the area, mostly the national monuments, and perhaps do some hiking.  Then "on the road again" heading to Texas.  (That's a favorite Willie Nelson tune!)
