Roof Sealant

Quick question....what sealant does BCS use for roof penetrations??

I'm replacing my decapitated wind sensor for the awning and need to get some of that same stuff. 

Speaking of the roof, there are two black square thing on the roof...one near the wind vane and the other near the sat dish penetration.  My first thought is patch antennas but don't understand why there are two.  The Alpine has a GPS function so that might explain one but a 2nd is baffling.

Dick,

I used self leveling lap sealant by Dicor for my anemometer replacement. I am not sure what BCS is using but I have purchased some adhesives and sealants from them and they were from the Bostick line if I remember right. I would not hesitate to use the Dicor product for what you are doing.

On the other subject post a photo of the roof units, hard to tell without a photo.

Thanks Ed, I may look into that.  Whatever was used on the roof seems like pretty good stuff.  Nice and pliable but nasty to get off since it adheres like crazy.  Stretches  like rubber when you pull on it.  I'm not at all sure how to get the old stuff off nor how important it really is to remove the old. Will the new sealant bond to the old stuff??

I'll add my 2 cents (probably worth less) also. My experience has been that you don't want to apply new Dicor over existing as, over time the interface will create a powdery substance that doesn't seal very well. From what you described it sounds like the original stuff may be Dicor. I use a putty knife (carefully) to remove it. Warming it with a heat gun or hair blower will soften it.

Thanks for the info. Maybe the reseals I looked at haden't been cleaned properly prior to application of the new Dicor. Sure saves a lot of work!

Getting most of the old stuff off took mere minutes with my Rockwell Sonicrafter fitted with a scraper blade.   A wire brush wheel on an angle grinder quickly cleaned up what was left.
