Best way to cool your fridge down quickly

All,

Appreciate anyone's advice on this subject to best cool the fridge down on our motorhome as we only use during the weekends but then shut it off when we leave for the week.

  • Do I need to be concerned of turning it off other than electricity cost?
  • Do the cooling fans you buy and place in the fridge help
  • I have always put a bag of ice in the fridge to help things along

Any and all advice or tips and tricks to cool quickly.

I put frozen water bottles and ice packs in the fridge/freezer the night before and turn it on. Then I try to quickly fill the fridge with cold items from my house fridge. If I have room, I keep the frozen bottles and ice packs in the fridge/freezer. Both the fridge and freezer will work more efficiently when full of items. The temp will stabilize and be more constant also.

Our Norecold has only been off once in ten years.  I have one of the little blue fans and don't see that it does much.

Chuck thank you and great tips, I will get some of those on the way up.

Bill maybe when we leave we turn the temp up a little so its not trying to run at its coldest when not much in there from weekend to weekend?

BJ reminds me it is twelve years, not ten!

Our Norcold has a third party replacement circuit board from a company called Dinosaur.  So, I'm not sure if my settings would be the same as yours.  That said, I've started setting it at 3 when we have it in storage.  We might turn it higher for normal use.  When we do turn it up, ice will form on some of the fins towards the right.
