Leveling Jacks - manual
« on: May 19, 2016, 04:44:06 PM »
Our current situation probably developed over a longer period of time, but this is our current situation:  We have a three jack system, whereby we lower each jack independently.  As we were preparing to leave a site, the pad or foot on the drivers side rear, separated from the cylinder shaft.  I was able to remove the pad and four return springs, so they did not get lost in transit.
I could see that the shaft did not fully retract but was sufficiently high enough to clear the roadway.
At our next stop, I purchased a 20T bottle jack and pushed the shaft up.  I then used the jack to help us level.
What I am looking for from forum members, is best way to proceed.  We have reservations made thru the Fourth of July, heading from Amarillo, TX to Goshen, IN, to Myrtle Beach, SC.
As long as we are parked on a reasonable hard surface with no chance of rain softening the ground, we can make do for a while.

Thanks!   May 19, 2016

Tic,
If you want to get it repaired, Rydbeck Trailer Service in Weatherford, TX  http://www.rtrailersales.com/  got a good review for repairing leveling systems from a  BAC member. http://beaveramb.org/forum/index.php/topic,5139.msg38428.html#msg38428
Looks like Weatherford will be on your route.

Thanks Steve!  Before we went full-time, Weatherford TX was home.  I know this business, and they do a lot of good quality trailer repair.  Weatherford is known as Cutting Horse Capital and trailers there are huge!  We did not plan to go back to Weatherford, heading to OK City, Branson, then Goshen for the FMCA rally.  I am searching HWH service locations along my path.  Tic

We had an excellent repair experience recently at Zolman Fleet Services in Mishawaka which is only a half hour from Goshen.  Although they are a general "truck service center" they don't treat motorhomes as second class citizens.  I'd give Alan a call at 574-259-7873 and ask if they'd do the work.

There are several RV repair places in Elkhart that have positive reputations on RVServiceReviews.com.  However, we dealt with one of them, Duncan RV Repair, on this recent trip and were not impressed.  The team at Zolman are good and the hourly rate was very fair.

Tic,
If Joel's suggestion doesn't work out check out the service providers at http://beaveramb.org/forum/index.php/topic,5250.msg39315.html#msg39315  (must be logged in to the Forum) and also www.rvservicereviews.com
After I sent the original message I realized that I read Amarillo and thought Abilene. Sorry about that.
Good Luck, Steve

May 20th update:  I called Monaco Tech Support and they referred me to http://www.rvajacks.com/pl_9.php, where I learned my pad is the 22.5A.  $76.50 plus freight.  My pad was evidently damaged at some point, but is replaceable.  I will call RVA Jacks back on Monday to have them ship me the replacement pad.  I will update again when the repair is complete.  Thanks for the counsel!

OK, I received the new jack pad.  BTW, if you ever need to call RVA Jacks, you will find you have to leave a message and they call you back, usually the same day.  I'm attaching a photo of the old and new pad.  RVA Jack 22.5A.  You can see the old one has a hole in the center of the pad.  Perhaps you can see on the new shiny one, a stud sticking up in the center.  Evidently, sometime in the past, the stud broke off, and then it just took the right circumstance to shift it far enough from center that it slid out of place.  New one has been installed.  Those springs are strong!
