Ignition switch wiring diagram 2003 Marquis?
« on: October 21, 2016, 09:43:21 PM »
In diagnosing an electrical problem the tech disconnected the ignition switch and replaced all the connectors. Now I have no headlights. I suspect he switched some connections.
Anyone have an ignition switch diagram showing which wire goes to which pin?

My ignition switch is wired as follows:
Pin - BAT   Wire: B1 Batt Powr Ignition Key
Pin - G2   Wire: S11 Ground
Pin - IGN   Wire: S2 Ignition
Pin - SOL   Wire: S232 Start
Pin - ACC   Wire: S247(? hard to read last digit) Accessory

Do I have a wire going to the wrong pin?
I had headlights until the switch was rewired, I am assuming I haven't blown a fuse.
Amber Running lights are the only thing working when I pull out the headlight switch. :(

Bruce,
See if you've got 12v on the Headlight CB in the electrical bay under the driver's seat.

Steve,
I show 12.9V between the white "hot" wire at CB6 and a good ground (large ground circuit at the bottom left).
I am assuming that BCS left that part of the circuit intact when they installed a set of HID lights last May.

I might add that when I pull the headlight switch out all the running lights come on just fine, just no headlights.

    Hi Bruce,
Did your coach get the headlights relay up-grade for low voltage to the headlights? Perhaps they may have upset some wiring in that electrical compartment.

Fred,
I'm not sure what the standard install for HID is, I have a call into BCS for info.
The only thing the tech messed with was the ignition switch wires, but rather than replace the wires one by one he disconnected the whole switch and reinstalled the harness.
If there is a low voltage relay could it get damaged by my working with the switch? In my swapping the wires between pins I did not cut power to the switch before swapping wires between pins. :(
No sparks or anything and the key was always off.

Bruce,
Are you checking headlights with the ignition on? On our coaches, ignition has to be on for headlights to illuminate.

Bruce,
The ignition switch just powers the ignition solenoid in the LF electrical bay. If everything else that runs off the ignition switch is working, but the headlights do not operate when the ignition switch is on, your problem is not the ignition switch or it's wiring.

Hi Bruce, The only time my headlights come on with the engine running is when I turn on the wipers at the "Smart Wheel" and they will turn off when I turn the engine off or if I pull out the headlight switch and then push it back in.

I hate magic. The headlights, after failing to come on with the engine started, were observed to be on when we stopped at a rest stop this morning. I had turned on the running lights to be more visible in the rain and I noticed that the were on. I will try Freds method of turning on the wipers (naturally they were on) to activate the lights and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise I'm chasing down a loose or wet connection. Happy to have the lights back at this point. I was afraid I had fried something sensitive. Perhaps if I sacrificed a chicken... ;)

Bruce,

As Fred described there are two systems that turn the lights on, one is the Smartwheel. Power is sent to the headlights when you turn the wipers on automatically. The other is the standard pull switch on the dash. You can have one of these systems function to power the lights while the other does not. My guess is that it is more in the switching and supply of 12V then a wet connector given one of the 12V supply systems seems to power the lights on fine.

If the dash switch does not power the lights, look for a failed relay, thermal breaker, or the dash switch, then go to the wiring. Hope this helps.

Ed, Fred,
I think you are missing one other circuit. The headlights will turn on automatically when the outside ambient light gets dim. They will then go out when the light increases. You can turn them off each time by pulling out the headlight switch and then pushing it in.
