Inoperative Allison Trans Temp guage

My guage no longer moves.  This is an old school analog guage. Does anyone know where the trans temp sending unit is installed on a 96 Monterey? I understand there are several possibilities. This looks like a VDO guage; any clue what microamp meter?

Trans temp sender should be on the output line from the trans to trans cooler( there may be two of them, one for the gauge and one for the idiot light). Check the connections on the gauge itself, may be just a poor connection.

The common reason for an inoperative transmission temp gauge is poor (usually broken) connection at the temp sender that is located in the cooler line connection at the transmission.

OK after dealing with family issues, I am back to my list of Motorhome chores...  spent three hours under the rear end this afternoon, found this sensor in the cooling line, the connection is not broken, once more, does anyone know war this sensor is? Is it a thermocouple? Or is it some sort of resistive sponsor?  Even if someone has a part number, I could drill into what type from there.

When my battery gauge quit working last year, I discovered that it was just corrosion on the terminals on the back of the gauge.  Took the terminals off and lightly sanded them and put them back on.  Gauge has worked ever since.

VDO temperature sending units are readily available online from several sources. You just need to match the temperature range that you want and the thread size of the sending unit to get the right replacement sending unit.
