Sani Con Mascerator

Ok, just as a reminder for those with a macerator.
The last chore for the day was to empty tanks.  Just got the coach washed and waxed and lookin good.  I put the mascerator hose in the sewer drain and hit the button.  The hose ruptured spraying black tank all over the coach.  I am telling you, this was a Robin Williams I need a hose spreader moment.
Nothing was left unsullied including me.

Turned out that in my haste I had forgotten to remove the drip cap on the end of the hose connector.  I do not recommend this experience.  Much humor was enjoyed by everyone but me.  Made worse because I had done it to myself.  Remove the drip cap prior to starting the mascerator!!

Been there, done that!  We used to use a portable 12v macerator to empty RVs into 30 gallon chemical barrels up in the mountains at the Kinzua Hills Golf Course near Fossil, OR.  Another fellow would help me and I relied upon him ONE TIME to remove the end cap before placing the output hose-end into a barrel.  We attached the power clips to the golf cart battery and away it went... and after a few seconds the end piece blew off the output hose and AWAY IT WENT!  The hose looked like a marlin tail-walking across the surf.  We both grabbed the hose, both of us with both our hands and choked it back into the hole in the barrel hole.

From that time on I either did the pumping by myself or ran through a "pre-flight checklist" before attaching the power!  John says, "Oh sorry, Dave.  I forgot to take the end cap off."  As we both stood there laughing, dripping with... well, you know what.  It wasn't long before we also had an audience, albeit looking on from a good distance away.  I don't remember which arrived first - the 5 or 10 people audience, or the million flies!

Hi Guys, Amazing piece  of equipment! Never could figure out why manufacturers installed it on luxury motorhomes for conventional disposal of waste. The original method using a "full waste tank" with all that head pressure and velocity is still the best method to remove the solid waste sitting on the bottom of the tank. Who ever said lets chop up poop before sending it into the sewer inlet never had to work on a macerator pump. All it takes is one of those "hemorrhoid wipes" to get wrapped around the blades and it will lock up the pump and then the fun begins.
About the only redeeming value having a macerator pump is when you need to pump out your waste to a "clean out" or to a toilet near your garage. Like any other piece of equipment, continued use will lead to a failure. Just my thoughts for what it's worth. Living the dream, Fred

Fred,Great comment, pumping black tank waste through a small hose 50' never seemed like a good idea. Guess that's why houses have 3 &4" toilet dumps.
The waste would come out of the tank so slow that a lot of the solids would drop out and stay in the tank.

Speaking of hemorrhoid wipes - at the Kinzua Hills Golf Course we emptied most of a dozen RVs every couple weeks and I was sure to tell the folks that nothing goes through the macerator other than the normal stuff - no wipes, no tampax,... just the normal stuff.  Well, one of the grandparents had their grandchildren there for a week and guess what...  the macerator stopped pumping... slowed to nearly a stop and finally just wouldn't turn at all.  You have guessed by now what I found when I opened the pump/chopper to clean it out - THREE tampax!  Those things don't chop up!!  I should have told their grandpa to clean it.  He assured me grandma told the girls to not put anything down the toilet other than the normal stuff.  Yah right!!!!!

It's a good thing I grew up on a wheat, cattle and hog farm.  We kids shoveled alot of S...H...I...T.  By the way, that's a freight term.  It means Ship-High-In-Transit.  When they put hay and manure in the ship holds, it was always labeled with that because if water got in the holds, then that stuff swells and is almost impossible to get out.
