no aqua hot in the bedroom 03 Marquis
« on: November 07, 2016, 04:30:21 PM »
Furnace works fine in the main living area but when I select furnace in the bedroom it blows the 10 amp fuse
that supplies power to the fans in the heat exchangers.  Using an auxiliary battery I was able
to confirm that none of the fans has a short in it; the fuse will also blow with all the fans turned off.

William,
Need a bit more info (at least I do). Where is 10 amp fuse located? When using a battery, how did you hook it to the fan circuit; at each fan with the original leads disconnected or at the fan switch leads, or? The fuse blows when all fans are off but what is on. What do you turn on to make the fuse blow with the fans off?
Thx, Steve

William,
Since the AquaHot system uses a circulation pump for each zone, you may have a shorted circulation pump or at least that is the next thing that I would check.

     Hi William,
I agree with Gerald. If you can access the service area of your Aqua-Hot, try unplugging the zone pumps one at a time to see if the fuse stops blowing. If not then the issue may be in a shorted wire somewhere between the heat exchanger and the aqua-hot

Sounds like a zone pump might not be working. You can remove the AH cover and see if the pumps are running. Also check to see if you have a fault indicator  for a pump on the electronic controller panel. The bedroom is probably zone 2 or 3 depending on your AH model. Thermostat is probably OK if fan is running on bedroom heat exchanger.

It is not uncommon for the check valves to stick shut when not in use for awhile.  Firmly tapping on them gets them working again.  The check valves should be easy to find.

You can find the parts locator in the service manual for your specific unit.   http://www.aquahot.com/Library.aspx

a centrifugal pump (zone pump) pulls power in proportion to the amount of fluid moving through the pump, i.e., if the check valve is stuck closed, the pump is not pumping fluid and will not have an increase in the amount of current it draws, should not blow a fuse (current) if the check valve is stuck.
