Dash Guages
« on: May 01, 2019, 01:37:11 PM »
On my 96 Monterey when I put on the headlights all the gauges change their readings. The temp gauges for the coolant and tranny go up slightly and so does the RPM tac. The Voltage gauge shows discharge but I confirmed at the batteries they are getting 13.5 volts or better. My oil pressure gauge is all over the place so I installed a mechanical one back by the service bay and all is well.  Is there a regulator for the voltage going to the gauge cluster?

On my 2005, the gauges have all individual sensor terminals for each function. The only thing common to them is the ground (which daisy-chains from gauge to gauge). Your's may be the same.

If the same, I would try running a new temporary ground wire from someplace with a good ground point the ground terminal stud on the back of the gauge. If that fixes the problem, then you'll know where to start looking to fix the factory ground wire.
