replacement step assembly for 2008 PT
« on: October 03, 2019, 07:15:11 AM »
I am looking for anyone that might assist me in finding a replacement set of entry steps[complete assembly] for a 2008 PT.  Don't want to strap them up any longer and climb into the coach, I have replaced the motor and the control box but the slides are so bunged up that a complete replacement is the only fix.  I would like to keep the look of the SS so not really looking to just put in anything.  Thank You in advance.

If nothing is available, you can remove the assembly, take it to a reputable machinist, and have the bad parts copied and replaced.  I’ve done that a number of times for farm and motorhome equipment.  The trick is fishing for a good shop.  Commonly one touting more modern technology will do great work, maybe better than new if they improve the metallurgy of the parts.

If you are certain you cant get parts you need from Lippert, perhaps you can from a RV salvage ie: NW salvage supply in Eugene Or. Visone in Kentucky or Arizona RV salvage in Phoenix.
Annother option I have seen used was to replace the whole unit with one from I think Tiffin that has one step that travels and one that folds down.

I found one on ebay earlier this year.  200 less than all the RV sources.  Give it a shot!

Hi Rocky, If you can get under the coach, there is a label with model number & series # along with the manufacturer. If you can find that and take a picture of it extended and retracted with dimensions and I'll see if I can help. Fred

Had similar problem.  My steps were mfg. by Coach Steps Inc. my step was SN 0125 and Part number 725  0072. They were bought by Lippert in May 2007.  they continued to make steps and parts for a while.  I had problems with the teeth on the gear plate.  they kept being chewed off.  replaced motor also was able to find gear plate. problem came back.  parts are essentially not available at this time. Lippert  state that in their steps owners manual.  I found and exact replacement at Beaver Coach Sales.  Very spendy an very heavy.  They said they had lippert make several for them, I got the last one they had.  I have my old step, if you need the side rails I can check on how to remove them.  or I could ship you the entire step if you would pay the freight.  Not asking for any payment other than that.

continuation of previous post.  The Motor, control box on my old steps are good.  I have removed the SS step face plates and installed them on my new steps.  Everything except the gear plate is good.

As I remarked earlier, a modern machinist can make metallurgical improvements, including geared components less likely to wear so quickly.

On our old coach with A&E electric jacks, a young Oregon City machinist with a new high-tech shop made a new screw drive and sleeve for a jack on a heavy coach corner that had stripped out.  He made the parts of alloys that were more appropriate for the application.  Original manufacturers all too often use less than optimal alloyed metal parts due to cost;  good enough to make the product work for awhile or under ideal conditions, but not good enough to be totally reliable over time or high stress.

Thank You all for your thoughts and suggestions.  A member told me he had an assembly that he had replaced and still had the old unit, we discussed my getting it from him after we both get back from the south this winter.  Again Thank You all.
