Light issue
« on: June 11, 2020, 06:49:11 AM »
I don’t even know where to start on this one.  My Marquis has the kitchen/sofa slide out on the driver side.  There are under cabinet lights above the sofa and above the sink.  There is also a rope light tucked up behind the slide trim at the ceiling.  These lights are dead.  Have all worked in the past.  The only other 12 volt load on the slide is the shade motorS, which are working, and the storage bay lights, which are working.  Everything on the 12V breaker panel is in order.  Any ideas?

Did you check for power coming out of the breaker panel? Are the lights that are not working all on the same circuit (as shown in the diagram below) - meaning all the Living Room 12V lights are out whereas the Kitchen/bath and Bedroom lighting is okay. If yes, that would confirm the circuit you are troubleshooting.

Does your breaker/fuse panel look like the one in this wiring diagram?

Adam,
If all fuses/breakers appear OK, I'd suspect a faulty connection. Since the kitchen appears closest to the source, I'd try to access the supply lines (12V & gnd) there. Pull the light fixture closest to mid coach and you may be able to access the lines supplying the string of lights in question. Check the connections.

Mike, my layout is very similar to the diagram. From the diagram I would guess the lights in question would be on LR ceiling light and map light circuit.  These lights are working.  As steve suggests I’ll pull the light and switch closest to the panel and see what I find.

Sounds good Adam.
Note that the Map lights ground through the dash dimmer switch. But the lights under the cabinets have a direct ground.

Every once in awhile the obvious turns out to be the solution.  On my 12V breaker panel the last breaker is marked “spare”. When I replaced the inverter last month I had turned all breakers off.  After it was installed, I turned all the breakers back on but thought I might as well just leave the “spare” off.  Low and behold, the spare breaker actually controls my lights that weren’t working.  Sometime you luck out.

Adam,.
Good to know I'm not the  only one who makes assumptions that get me into trouble. :)
Glad you found it.
