Freshwater tank overflow problem
« on: October 06, 2011, 09:46:46 PM »
I read the prior post regarding the freshwater tank overflowing and not stopping.  We purchased a 1990 Beaver Contessa 37' this spring and I have not been able to get the FW system to pressurize.  First, the tank fill valve was sticking (probably from non-use) but that got working again.  Then, when I would turn on the fill switch and attempt to fill with pressurized potable water from hose, the tank would fill, than overflow and keep overflowing.  I have read there is an overflow valve circuit or other switch somewhere that possible is not detecting the tank is full?  I can't find anything on the RV like that.  Any suggestions?  I am new to this so it could be operator error as well.  I need a dang manual....didn't come with one.

Thank in advance for any help.

Brian

Brian,

We have had 3 different RV's over 16 years and the fill on the fresh water tank must be shut off at the valve that you open to fill the tank.  The tank will simply overflow until the valve is turned off.

Good luck,

Paul

Brian,
The 1990 Contessa was not equipped with an automatic shutoff valve for the fresh water fill. The fresh water tank is never pressurized in your coach. The fresh water tank is merely a supply source for the fresh water pump that pressurizes you water system. If I can be of assistance to you in learning how to operate and enjoy your Beaver, call me. I am in the directory.

We have a 1993 Beaver Contessa. My husband, Peter Bradish, has a copy of all the tech schematics which were used on the classic Beavers. If you want any copies of these, please contact Peter at bradish.p@gmail.com.

Thank you for the heads-up Gerald.  The manuals I have are for newer models  (>1997) and they all talk about pressurization, so i wasn't aware of that.  I will try this as you and Paul suggest - turning off the fill switch before it is full.

Thanks again!
