I don't think they ever had surge protectors. They were made with built in water pressure regulators, at least mine was. I am on my second surge protector so I believe that they should be considered a consumption type of devise. I have a watchdog currently and I also bought a extra set of jouls? that can be used if these are used up and fail. My old surge protector went out when I was about 70 miles away from a replacement. Bought new one on the ride home.
