Hi  My coach is a 2008 Beaver Contessa  42ft with a C 9 engine.   A Roadmaster Raised Rail Chassis RR10s .  A Dana rear axle and differential  with a 4:30 to 1 ratio.  My left rear dual tires are waring of way faster the any of the rest of the tire on the coach.  It steers and drives great down the road. Any idea  what is going on .    We had a great time in Branson  Thanks Wayne Baumann

Wayne,
I can not say exactly what your problem is without seeing the tire wear that you are referring to, however it sounds like you have an alignment problem between your tag axle and your drive axle. If this is the problem that you have, you should see some uneven wear on at least one of your tag axle tires. To properly diagnose this problem and repair it, you will have to take the coach to someone like Henderson's Line-Up.

Wayne, I don't know where you are, but I agree with Gerald, this sounds like an alignment problem. I have a 2007 version of the same coach, but with a Cummins. My tag axle and drive axle were oth out of alignment and caused serious wear problems on my tires. A standard alignment shop will not be able to dianose or repair this problem. I took mine to JoSam in Orlando. They have the ability to lock the chassis down, heat and align the axles. If your drive axle tires (duals) are wearing too fast, the axle is probably either towed in or out. THe technician that worke don mine told me that over 50% of the motorhomes he works on have bent axle housings. The motorhome chassis manufacturers buy the axles from suppliers and then weld their own suspension system to them. They do not properly cool them to insure tey stay straight, so they get misaligned. JoSam sells their technology and tools to alignment shops all over the country, check for one in your area. The process took about two-three hours and we waited in the coach while they did the work.

I don't know anyone in the Atlanta area, but if you call the Josam headquarters in Orlando, they can tell you who they have in the area. BTW, the bill for my coach was about $1000, but my tag axle and drive axle both had to be corrected. The drive axle was toed in on both sides, and the tag was actually pointed right, which made the coach try to turn left at all times, which caused my steer tires to wear out very quickly. JoSam might have a website.

Hi Wayne,

I had a very similar problem with the left duals on my RR10, 42' '09 Contessa.  The wear first appeared at about 15,000 miles and the tires had to be replaced at 20K miles.  I took my coach to Kaiser Frame & Alignment in Eugene, OR.  They told me that this is not uncommon on Monaco coaches and about 1 out of 10 exhibit these caracteristics (to varying degrees).  Unfortunately, our coach was fairly extreme.  They had to drop the drive axle and frame to attemp to straighten it.  They actually had to "relief cut" the frame and reweld because it was so far out.  Any good truck/bus shop should be able to diagnose the problem but Josam's in Orlando does have a great reputation and would be very comfortable with their work.

I wish I had better news...

Tim

Jo Sam in Orlando did our rear axle some years ago. http://josamusa.com/ they are actuall an heavy truck equiptment sales point for Jo Sam alingement equiptment which is a world wide company. They have an excellent shop and reputation. We get our suspension conponents checked every few years as they have drive on steel plates that move to flex suspension conponents. I think there are other sites in the US.
