If anyone is towing either of these trucks I would like to know what tow bar etc you are using.  The truck weighs in at around 8800 lbs.

My brother has the Blue Ox tow bar (rated at 10,000lbs) and loves it. He tows his GMC 2500HD crew cab diesel with it with no issues!

Jeremy,

The hitch on your coach is rated at 5,000 pounds.  If that has not been improved, you may consider that first.  I have used a Blue Ox tow bar rated at 10,000 pounds for 8 years.  I like it.

Hi Larry,
thanks for your reply. I have since been told that the 5000 lb applies to a two axle coach. Coaches like ours with a tag axle have a towing capacity of 10,000 lbs.

Jeremy,
I think that all 2000 Marquis coaches have the same receiver (hitch). If so the receiver will be your weak link. I know of two 2000 Marquis coaches that have had receiver failures. Both were caught before the receiver completely broke in two, but the welds were the receiver attaches to the square tube that runs between the frame rails, broke on three sides before being caught. One coach was towing a Suburban and the other one was towing a 4600 pound Grand Cherokee. The one towing the Grand Cherokee was my coach.

If your receiver is butt welded to the cross tube and only has a reinforcing plate across the top, it is a 5000 pound hitch and should be reinforced or at least watched carefully if you are towing an 8800 pound toad.

Gerald,
Many thanks for your input. I will check the tube set up and have extra gusset plates welded as necessary.    Jeremy

Gerald,

Thanks for the insight regarding weak points of the receiver mount. I have a relatively light tow but will be checking mine tomorrow anyway....just never know who was welding that day.
