Splendide Washer/Dryer

Question from my wife.

This is our first Splendide combo unit.  Can she use it driving down the road, especially the drying cycle.  I know we would need to run the generator but we run that for the roof air conditioners anyway.

I do not know the answer to the question and a call to Splendide may be in order here. I think that the unit was designed for stationary level use in Europe for small apartments and the like. My guess is that that out of level issue was never considered in the design. There is a leg leveling procedure in the manual like there is for all washers and dryers so it is at least implied that the unit must be level.

Severe bumps, and perhaps going up or down inclines could put the unit enough out of balance to damage some of the drum suspension components, although I'm really not completely sure on this one given you just wanted to use the drying cycle which would seem to be fairly well balanced. My guess is Splendide will tell you no....

Bob,

Yes, with the generator running, you can use the dryer cycle on the Splendide.  You can also use the wash cycle, if your grey water tank is empty and watch if very carefully.

There is one thing that everyone should be cautious about here. Some Beaver coaches do not empty the washer into the gray water tank, but it empties directly into the sewer outlet pipe. On these coaches you can only use the washer when you are hooked-up, but you can use the dryer when traveling.

Not if you have an unvented model since there is a several gallon per hour water use and the same cautions as with the washer would apply.

This is the reply I received from Splendide.

Over travel of the suspended drum inside could damage the machine. Therefore we do not recommend this. Drying maybe, but not wash, rinse or spin please. It will cost you to repair it.

Bob,

Manufacturers are pretty cautious with their advice so the fact that they mention "maybe drying" would make one think that should be O.K.. These machines spin at a high rate and centrifuge most of the water out of the clothes. The fact that the unit has a small capacity and the suspension is made to handle the imbalance of washing and spin rinsing it would seem that there would be low risk on drying a load while driving.

If I was on a good interstate road, I would not be too worried about the dry cycle. As an initial test (and if she was a sport) you could have your wife watch the tub travel over bumps while drying and see if it looks minimal. If you heard some abnormal mechanical noise from the machine while the motorhome was pitching from more extreme bumps then I would shut it down and probably not use it again while traveling.

We have decided to use it while parked and level.  What the heck re are retired and not in that much of a hurry.  Plus we have not heard from anyone that says they use it while traveling.
