No AC power to Coach via generator
« on: October 05, 2013, 08:50:15 PM »
Generator starts and runs with green Led light in contact switch indicating there is generator power to transfer switch.  Transfer switch trys to make contact, sparks and chatters but will not contact.  I installed this transfer switch last year.  It appears to be bad contact at switch but am wondering if there is another cause for the problem besides the switch before I replace it.  Dry camping at Ballon Fiesta and am loosing power, any help would be appreciated.

Ed,
From your description, I can not think of any other reason for your problem than a defective transfer switch.

The generator is only putting out 27 Volts to the transfer switch, each leg.  Appears to be generator problem, any suggestions?

Ed,
If your generator is only putting out 27 volts, there is no quick and easy repair that can be made there. If you have a constant speed generator (10k or 12.5K), I do not know what is wrong other than it must be running at very low RPMs. However, if you have a variable speed generator (7.5K or 8K), the inverter in the generator or the control module is bad.

You will probably just need to run an extension cord from a neighbor's coach to keep your batteries up until the rally is over. I will be there on Tuesday morning, and I will be glad to run you a cord from my coach if we are parked close enough.
