I am getting a ''hot rubber smell'' in my 2009 Contessa on occasion. Has anyone else had this issue? If so what was it, how did you remedy it?

Roger,

Under what conditions are you get this smell.  Is the coach on the road?  If so, climbing a hill or just flat interstate at normal speed under normal conditions.

Roger,

It is very hard to determine the nature of your smell.  The source could be electrical or mechanical (brakes, tires, oil leakage).  The smell from an electrical source is very different than hot brakes, bearing or oil leakage.  Hopefully, you can determine your problem.

Good luck,

Roger,

If your diesel particulate "afterburner" happens to fire off while parked or slowing into a stop as opposed to being out on the road at speed, you can sometimes detect a rubbery or rotten egg odor. We,as others have also had engine compartment insulation pads come loose and settle on the valve cover, etc.

We have occasionally noticed the same smell and I have interpreted as above, since so far no black smoke or flames. Hope I'm right and that yours is nothing serious.

Roger-

Mike brings up a good point.  You should do a thorough inspection under the coach and the engine compartment.  Debris of some kind may be up against an exhaust component, the surpentine belt may have problems, a hose may be displaced, or any number of other maladies, including those Mike mentioned.  Could be something loose rubbing a tire, or a bad tire, or a stuck brake component.

As Karl questioned, you didn't elaborate under what circumstances you encounter the odor.  It would help us to know that.
