A Mirror Question

As some might have heard of my towing nightmare last month where my drivers mirror was broken by the boom on the tow truck. They took it off, replaced the broken part, repainted the mirror, reinstalled it and everything works but the defroster. Does anyone know first, where to find the fuse for the mirrors, and if they're both on one circuit? The right side defroster works so if they're on the same circuit, I can rule out a blown fuse. Otherwize, something didn't get re-connected right!

What part of the mirror did they replace and what part did they repaint?  Some of the replacement parts on these mirrors must be purchased with the defrost function.  Hopefully, the parts that were replaced do not fit in to that category.  Do you have a repair/work order with the part numbers for the replaced parts?  If so, we can check to see if perhaps these should have been specific for the defrost function.  One final question, does the mirror power adjustment (up/down and side to side) work?

Karl, I have nothing from them regarding paperwork. They came to my machanic's shop (where I had it towed to) and reinstalled the mirror before I got there. As far as what they replaced, it was broken where the mirror attaches to the arm. When I got there, I first checked out the paint job and it looked good and was a good match (they also painted the arm) then I checked out the functions, it went up, down, right and left! The only way I felt to check the defrost mode was after turning it on, I checked the right and I felt it slightly warm to the touch and gave it the breath test! Didn't fog up! When I went to the drivers mirror, couldn't feel the warmth and I could fog it up on the breath test!

My best guess is that they replaced the guts of the mirror with the non-heated version.  There are probably no fuses separate for the mirror heat function and the movement adjustment function.  Do you know the brand of mirrors you have on your coach?  Perhaps a call to the factory would at least answer the question regarding replacements that are either heated or non-heated.

The most common brands of mirrors on our Beavers are Velvac and Ramco Engineering.  I think yours are Velvac.

They're Velvac! I'll quiz him on what and where they got said replacement part! He texted me today to ask "Is there a way you can get me a cost for two mirrors?" That got me thinking he has no idea how much these mirrors cost, so where did he get this replacement part?? I think I may just suggest I take it to an RV repair shop, have them inspect the mirror, give me an estimate to make it right and get them to cover the cost!
