Marquis body trim
« on: September 18, 2015, 06:51:34 PM »
My 1999 Beaver marquis has a scrape along the lower edge of the basement doors passenger side that requires replacing the gold colored trim pieces along what would be called the "rocker panel" on non-motorhome vehicles.  Don't know what to call it on a motorhome.  I have attached a photo showing the side of the MH.  Note the gold stripe on the lower edge that extends front to rear.  In checking with Beaver in Oregon, they say they can no longer get those replacement pieces in gold.  Replacing all of them with stainless steel is my only option.  That means I must deviate from original and replace both sides and perhaps the front and rear cap pieces to be uniform.  Anyone know of a source for these pieces in gold?  If I do replace them with stainless steel are Beaver die-hards going to laugh and poke sticks at me for deviating from original?

Rick,

All I can do is somewhat commiserate with you.  My gold trims look pretty good, but my Beaver medallions are pitted.  I have tried in the Portland Oregon area to find someone who would redo them but haven't.  Haven't looked too hard.  It would seem as though a high end body shop might work, but maybe they are just into chrome colored chrome. :)

As a fellow '99 owner I can say I like your coach! :)

Mike, I had an outfit rechrome a slightly corroded bathroom light fixture a few years ago.  I don't see them near the same locale around the Grand Ave. industrial area now, and am not sure of the name - East Side Plating sounds familiar, not sure.  But if you Google "plating Portland Oregon, you'll get plenty of options, any one of which could likely refinish your medallions.

I would run a similar search for your area, Rick, especially for automotive-capable platers, and see if one has the familiarity with your panels and the equipment big enough to handle them.  There may be something in Butte or Missoula.  Or if you can plan a trip to Portland, or opt to ship the damaged panels, contact and question some of our outfits about repairing/plating them and schedule one for the job.

You may  be able to powder coat the gold color onto the SS replacements, I know as in our business we did a gold tint over chrome to look like a brass finish. I would find a local shop close to you and make a visit to see what samples they have. You may get lucky and they could have some powder in stock.  Your issue if the color is good will be to find a shop with inventory on hand. The clear powder finish would be very durable but becaeful of the color some of the tints will be a little green hue

A plate shop may be able to help you if you can find a shop that will do Brass, I think the issue is will they have tanks larger enough it's a big problem and smaller shops wont have the tank size. The EPA has really changed this business model.

You can also look at paint over the SS but would not have the durability needed. Powder Coat will be your best option or just change to chrome.
