Transmission Fluid?
« on: February 15, 2014, 02:24:44 PM »
We got the coach out of storage yesterday to prepare for leaving next Saturday. The drive from our inside storage to the outside storage was around 30 miles. In that time, the water temp rose to 190 (seems normal) but the transmission temp rose to 210. I don't think I've seen that temp as high before. Today, when I go to the coach, I plan to run it to operating temp and then check the transmission fluid. Should it be low, what is the correct fluid to use? Could there be an issue other than low fluid?

I don't think my transmission has Transynd, but then, I wouldn't know looking at it.

Thanks for any ideas?

Stan,
It is not uncommon to see 210 degree transmission if you get stuck in traffic, and the coach is idling in gear for any extended period of time, especially if you are running Dexron III fluid.

Your transmission will either have Dexron III or TranSynd fluid. If you do not know what kind of fluid your transmission is running, it is time that you had a fluid analysis preformed, or a fluid change. Allison no longer supports Dexron III fluid for use in your transmission, and when they did support it, they recommended that it should be changed yearly. So if a fluid analysis shows that you have Dexron III, it needs to be changed out and have TranSynd installed by Allison recommendations.
