Gaggenau Igniter / Electrode Repair

After living with no spark for a while, ordered both the electronic spark module and two electrodes from RepairClinic.com to repair the surface burners.  Seemed that the electrodes were shorted out along the wire insulation, sometimes would spark, most of the time not, so got the three parts that could fail.

Wasn't sure how difficult the process would be but just started unscrewing things from the top after unplugging the 120V cord in back of first drawer.  Only turned off LP valve as wasn't going to disconnect any piping.  Easy-peasy to get to the innards.  The electronics pops out of base tray with two plastic squeeze pins from underneath.  Electrodes were held captive with cheap nuts and quick twist removed them.

Oops, the new electrodes were not the same...

Old on left, new on right

Found that the ceramic insulator collar would set on top of flat bracket and under cast diffuser and be at the correct height to create spark to the diffuser.  Had to enlarge hole in both the brass part on bracket and the diffuser with 7/32 (or 1/4") drill bit.  Now do not need or want the stamped nut.

Partial reassembly photo...

Note: thermocouples had already been replaced.
