Engine Coolant
« on: July 11, 2017, 10:09:26 PM »
When I had my engine coolant converted to ELC they put Rotella ELC in the engine.  I think I have a small leak some where because I have to put coolant in every month or so.  I have been using Rotella but it is a little hard to find.  I do find it in some Walmarts.  Now my question, "can I put any red ELC in the engine"?  My engine temps are solid at 188-192.  Thanks

Jerry,
As long as the ELC meets CAT EC-1 spec you should be OK. Zerex and Delco ELCs meet it.

Jerry,

Many of the coolants say they are compatible but it is hard to know for sure. Meeting the Cat spec, like Steve mentioned is a requirement, but I might also see if the chemical ingredients in the ones you want to mix are the same for the additive package. If you took a photo of the Rotella make up and selected the other brands that are using that similar chemistry package, that would be best.
