Air Line Fittings
« on: October 06, 2017, 09:12:39 PM »
Excuse my repeated mechanically ignorant posts.  I have been stretching my self to working on the greasy parts of the coach lately.  I heard an air leak at the rear of the coach and found the culprit to be one of the connectors that connects two air lines together.  One side goes to the air purge manifold aft of my battery bay where the primary fuel filter is.  Attached (I hope) is a fitting that I bought.  It appears to be just a compression fitting where I take/cut the old one off and just stuff the air lines into both ends of this fitting I bought.  I am aware that there are thousands of things that I just don't know about this greasy stuff and I'm afraid to cut the old one off and strand myself here.  So if you would either tell me what to do or reassure me that I'm on the right track I would appreciate it.  Thanks in advance and I apologize for my ignorance of all things chassis related.

You are correct about pushing the air line into the fitting. Be sure you have a clean straight cut on the air line before inserting it into the fitting. To remove the air line from the fitting you push the air line and the ring on the fitting inward, hold the ring tight to the fitting and then pull the air line out.

Jerry,
Like Russ said, you do not need to cut out the fitting, just remove the fitting in the manner he described and replace it after you check the lines for uneven or damaged ends, and cleanliness.
