2005 Beaver Santiam Step Well Cover
« on: June 06, 2018, 08:10:26 PM »
My step well cover which is electric is stuck in the open position and will not budge.  I can hear a relay click when activating the switch.  Has anyone had experience with fixing the cover?

As I recall from when our coach was brand new and the cover failed, BCS accessed the mechanism via a floor panel to the right of the drivers seat.  You may have to hunt through floor covering for that.  If you have a diesel Santiam, then I’d guess like ours your cover is air driven.

The air line may be compromised or the air solenoid either electrically or aerobically faulty.  The “click” you hear implies the solenoid is getting power and activating, but either air isn’t getting through or something in the track(s) is blocking cover movement.  It can also be a loose fastener anywhere from the cover’s framework to the ram mounting, resulting in misalignment that jams the cover.

Carl,
If your step cover is run by an electric motor, the cover switch applies 12v to the relays to open or close the cover. The relays switch a separate 12v through  a fuse to the motor(s). That said, I don't know where the fuse is. It's F25 in the front bay of our 07 but I think your 05 has a different front electrical bay layout.

Our step cover is also air-pressure driven.  We have two switches - one by the pilot's seat and another by the copilot's seat.  I believe the solenoid is located in the basement electrical bay and the air is T-ed off the same air-line that runs the air horns.
