Dashboard Air Conditioning

Brought my 97 Monterey w/ cat diesel to RV service shop because my dash conditioning  was blowing warm. I was told there is a "part" I need to turn up
or down that switches between warm and cold on the air conditioning system. I looked and could not find such a part - Has anyone heard of this?
If so, what should I look for?

It sounds like they may be referring to the warm/cold air setting on the dash climate control. Some are slide levers and some are round knobs. There is usually red for heat and blue for cold regarding color coding. All the way to blue is what you want. I know of no other internal or external temperature control. You should know right off if that is the fix and if this is working for you with the dash air running.

Thanks for your reply - it isn't the control knob on the dash board - twist to blue or red) I was told it is up under the dash  - I thought it was
something unique to my year and model Beaver.

No offense intended for the shop you are using.  I would take it to a truck dealer to work on the chassis A/C.
They may be more experienced than a RV dealer.

The control that Ed is referring to is part of your dash A/C control panel. It uses either a cable or an actuator to move a door between the A/C evaporator core (cold air) and the heater core. This door is called the temperature door and with it fully to cold you get only cold air and with it fully to hot you get only air through the heater core and with the door in-between the two positions, you get a mixture of hot and cold to get the duck discharge temperature that you want.

There are a few coaches that have a manual cutoff for the hot water going to the heater core, but turning this valve off should not be necessary if the temperature door is properly adjusted so that it seals in both directions. If the shop is telling you to move something under the dash, it is probably the control for this door. If adjusted and functioning properly it should be controlled only from the dash controls.

On our 99 Monterey, there is a valve under the front cap that continues to go bad and we have had it replaced twice, and now it is stuck again. Once it gets replaced to dash air works great.  It isn't very expensive for the part but a pain to replace  as you have crawl under the front cap to get to it.

It sounds like you are referring to a water control valve. This valve turns off the hot coolant from the engine when the temperature door is set to full cold to reduce the temperature in the climate control case area for better cooling.

On our 97 Monterrey, the control cable was not stiff enough to fully operate the temp mixer valve that Gerald refers to.  What we did was manually slide the valve to the full cool position in the summer and move it the other way in the winter.  The lever is easily accessible from under the front cap.

If you call them, I would think they could point you in the right direction for replacement parts.  Additionally, on my 97 Monterey, I had the cable control unit replaced with an electronic control unit and related valve.  That should fix the problem...

Can you provide any details on this?  What was entailed?  Did it replace the entire control panel?  Who did the work?

Yes, the entire control panel has to be replaced with a new one.  This is very simple.  The cable is removed from the old unit.  The old panel is removed, replaced with the new one and the wires are run through the same hole as the cable came out.  The coolant lines are clamped and the valve is replaced with the electronic one, wires attached and coolant lines are unclamped.  The only real issue is finding a hot (12v) and ground lead for the control unit.  Just make sure that if you disconnect the engine key start switch, make sure you put it back in tight.  I learned the hard way....
