Entry Door Missing Screw
« on: December 19, 2020, 05:36:06 PM »
The circled screw was missing when we bought the coach.  I recently found it and installed it.  After the install the door would not latch.  Weird.  Upon unscrewing it to barely tight the door would latch again.  Any insight as to why?

Mark,
Sounds like screw is too long and interfering with latch mechanism or possible that latch mechanism is slightly bent. IMHO get a slightly shorter screw.

Mark, if you have never removed the panel that holds your dead bolt and latch mechanism it might be advisable to remove the 4 panel screws and the 2 latch screws and the 2 dead bolt screws and lubricate everything. Be careful when taking out the dead bolt to note its exact return location and torque on screws . Check the latch clips that hold the linkage  together because if they become disengaged you can not open your door.

I just noticed that the bottom latch does not latch.  I would totally open it up if we weren't living in it.  There are only two outcomes if I was to open it.  One, the door would never latch again or two, the door would latch and never open again.  Some mechanical things and I just don't get along too well.  I'll see if I can't find a YouTube video.

I think when you put the screw in all the way you are putting too much pressure on the latch and it doesn't come all the way out thus the door won't latch.  I had the problem with our screen door and when I loosened the screws a turn each, it worked fine.

Mark I found a good You Tube video on your entry door by putting  in " adjusting a Monaco entry rv door ". Suggest you check it out and try yourself or hire someone.
