basement air
« on: August 16, 2012, 12:32:32 AM »
We have a 2000 marquis.
Our air stopped working on our trip out west.  When we got to the campground, it worked fing for about 3 weeks.  Yesterday it stopped again.  Both compressors are kicking in, and we cleaned the filters.  Any ideas?

Thank you

John,
I can not answer your question without some information. First, when the air conditioner stopped cooling, what were the fans doing (both condenser and evaporator fan)? Second, were both of the compressors running, and what was the amperage draw for each compressor? With the answers to these questions, I can tell you what you need to do to get the A/C cooling again.

Both fans were running.  Both of the compressors were running.  Amp draw on low is 3+ amps with fan, and went to 10+ amps with compressor.

Amp draw on high is 7amps

John,
If the amperage readings that you gave me are correct, there are some serious problems with your A/C unit. Call me (713-254-4156) and I will try to walk you through the diagnosis process.

Also if you do not feel comfortable with working on 120V electrical circuits, you can give me your location and I may know of a service location that will be able to check it for you.
