Correct Fuel Filter
« on: October 10, 2012, 11:02:41 PM »
I Just ordered fuel filters for my 3126 Cat and wanted to make sure I ordered correctly.  I have a primary and secondary without a primer pump.  I got the CAT 198-6378 with water separator for the primary and the CAT 1R0751 for the secondary.  Is this correct, or are they both 2 micron filters?  Thanks!

Brian,
The 1R0751 is correct. Not sure about the 198-6378. My chassis manual calls for a Raycor 200200, which I think was discontinued. My shop has been installing a Fleetgard FS-1287 for the primary,

Steve:

I assume you are aware that there is a Racor conversion kit that permits use of a current Racor filter in lieu of the discontinued model.

It's a Racor RK12963 retrofit kit , (uses S3230P filter).  You can buy it pretty much anywhere that Racor filters are sold.

Hmmmm....http://www.hawthornecat.com/UserFiles/Attachments/56.pdf says that the CAT 198-6378 is the Primary for a single filter system.....is it also the correct filter for a two filer system?

Brian,
Best info I could find. The Cat RV Recommendations sheet for my coach only shows the IR0751, and no primary water separator filter, which is why I first referred to the Racor 200200 that Beaver listed in the Chassis manual. As I understand it, the engine mfgr normally lists 1 filter and the chassis mfgr, adds the other.   A search on the web shows that both CAT filters are rated at 2 microns. The Racor 200200 and S3230P filters are rated at 30 microns. I wasn't able to confirm the FS-1287 used in my coach but it crosses to a NAPA filter that has a 14 micron rating. What filter number are you replacing?
