Norcold 1200 LRIM won't shut off!!!
« on: November 05, 2014, 03:29:58 AM »
I went to winterize my coach and shut off my fridge to clean it and it won't shut off. :-/

Anybody have any ideas what to do? (besides dynamite)

It's a dreaded Norcold 1200 LRIM

If you're winterizing and the gas is off, I presume you mean it's stuck on in 110v. mode, Les.  You could unplug the coach of course, but flipping off the fridge in the main breaker box or unplugging the fridge from its outlet in the back are options if the rig needs to stay on 110v. to keep the batteries up.

Of course that doesn't resolve the cause, such as a bad switch or circuit board.  That's likely to still be there next spring.  Commonly the on/off circuit, controls, and any digital readout is run on 12 volt while the electric element side of the boiler heater is 110v.  Some older units had a third heater option, 12v., but my hunch is that yours doesn't.  Regardless, if you can locate and pull the 12v. fuse for the control board, that should shut things down.  Unfortunately mine is a much different coach and Dometic fridge, with breakers and fuses all in one cabinet, so I can't tell you where your breakers and fuses are.

Les, are you getting an error light??  It may be running in an emergency mode and due to a board fault.  Try disconnecting both the AC and DC supply, give it a few minutes and cycle it back on.  If the board just needs a reset doing that several time may resolve the issue.

I haven't turned the LP off yet. If I unplug it outside behind the fridge it just wants to beep or switch to LP.
It must be the fuse removal then that will knock it out.
Thre are no error codes showing.
I'll delve into it this weekend.

Thanks for the hints guys.

I would be very cautious  on that Norcold,
A friend and fellow RVer just had the Norcold catch fire, they were having basically the same problem.
I am changing my wonderful Norcold to a residential in spring,
Tired of the worries

I understand it is a bit hard to exit, especially when the coach is full of smoke

Well, I tried turning off the 110v breaker and pulled the fuse for the fridge.

Everything powered down and I left it off for 1/2 hr a turned everything on.

No change to turned it off at the fridge, so I just shut off the gas, turned off the breaker and pulled the fuse.
I'll leave it off so I can clean it and leave it off for the winter.

I guess next step is determining whether it's the switch or the board.
