Highway 40 between Barstow and Kingman
« on: December 04, 2014, 12:39:53 AM »
Has anyone traveled Hwy 40 East between Barstow and Kingman recently?
I took that route 2 years and the road condition was one of the worst I've traveled.
I am planning a trip and would like to take Hwy 40 if it's been repaved/repaired.
If it is still in poor condition I will take an alternate route.
Does anyone have recent knowledge about the road condition?
Thanks in advance

Hey Darrell, when are you going? I'll be taking I-40 from Barstow to the cutoff (AZ 95) south to Lake Havasu this Saturday and can give you a report! It's around 165 miles of your 210 miles request!!

Darrell: traveled that route just before Thansgiving.  Not too bad - around Boron the road gets a little bumpy but most of the road has been resurfaced and except for a few bridge joints, the ride is OK.

It is much better than two years ago.  We didn't even know we were in California.  travelled two weeks ago.

Thank you for your responses. I didn't want to navigate around that section of #40 and now I won't need to.

Now....if they would just finish up fixing Interstate 5 in downtown Stockton it would be a much better trip south. Last year it was so rough it pulled out the screws holding the MCD shades in the front window.

After hearing stories about nearly losing whole coaches in California's potholes, we don't go there... except along the eastern border fringes like Death Valley and perhaps up near Susanville from Reno to Lakeview on US395.

Unfortunately, living in Shasta County in Northern California, I don't have a choice.  Going north to Oregon is not too bad, but going any other direction from my house requires a tight seat belt and a death grip on the steering wheel.

My sentiments too, David.

How diligently do they scan passports when you enter California? Just wondering...we are planning a spring/summer/fall trip there for 2016.

PASSPORTS!  Passports....we don't need no stinking passports.     ;D

Unless you are coming in from Mexico and even then they will probably just glance at them.

Stan: it's basically an agricultural stop. They'll merely ask if you have any fruits? No? Have a nice day. The end.

In California you don't need a passport... nor a Green Card...  nor citizenship, at least, in the USA.  In fact, if you are lucky enough to have none of those things, then you qualify easier for welfare, WIC, ObamaCare, driver's licenses, free medical services, and voting rights.

But just try to enter California with an apple..........
