Ice Bucket?
« on: September 09, 2015, 05:46:27 PM »
The coach we are getting has a Dometic NDA 1402 reefer with ice & water in the door. The ice bucket (one with an auger in it) is missing and not made anymore. Checked with normal parts sources and no joy. Does anyone know if there is a replacement bucket available?
Thx, Steve

Also, is it possible to just eliminate the icemaker in the Dometic in favor of a new Uline ice maker installed somewhere?

The aggravation for Steve (and potentially myself, and many others here, since I have the same fridge) is that the icemaker itself is common enough, probably Frigidaire-built for many home and RV models, but the auger and bucket (ice dispenser) part seems specific to the 1402.  It's virtually unseen out there - I even had numbers off my dispenser/bin that don't show up online anywhere.  I even saw an entire refurbished 1402 available, and it was missing the dispenser/bin.

I left one at Alliance in Florida when they installed my residential refer. Maybe it still out back somewhere.

Check with Bend RV service Jeff may hove one or RV outfitters they often pull the old units to upgrage folks. Beaver Coach Sales may have one all of these folks do recyle so you may want to leave your info just in case one comes in

All,
Thanks for the inputs. I'm at BCS and they said they've been unable to locate any at the normal RV parts outlets including NW Supply. I'll check out your inputs. If no joy, I'll remove the auger drive and just use a tub to catch the ice, but DW wants the ice in the door working so that will be a last resort.
We just traded the 2000 Marquis for a 2007 Contessa Bayshore 43 footer with a 400 hp C9. I'll miss the C12 but..

Left BCS today and put about 450 mile on the coach. While it's not the C12, the C9 is performing very well. It runs hotter (206 at flat cruise) but handled the mountain grades between Bend and Redding with no problems. Max temp reached was 215.  So far we like it!

Steve,

Could you have one made from Plexiglas or is it too complex? Congrats again and safe travels.

Later Ed

If it's what I think, Ed, it's the tray and auger/crusher/dispenser mechanism as a unit, very much akin to one perhaps in your home ice/water dispensing fridge.  It's much more than just a plastic tray.

Steve, glad to hear the C9 handles the 43 footer okay.

Joel,
That's the one. Will look for it next week.
We got in last night, Coach performed very well. For a test I drove across Tehachapi pass between Bakersfield and Barstow CA. Elevation change of about 3800 ft and constant climb. Ambient outside temp was ~98-101F. Coach took it effortlessly in 3rd and 4th with engine temps running about 215. Peaked at 225 a couple of times on steep inclines but no check engine light. Got about 7.3+ mpg including generator usage on complete trip.

Excellent.  Do you have to mess with the diesel particulate additive stuff on it?  I know our '06 was about the last year before the exhaust rules changed, and I'm thankful the engine was capable of handling low sulfur and didn't need the emissions mods.  The C9 is a great engine;  yours probably is one that is actually tested out at 425HP - Dave A. would know.  At that length you might have to watch your carrying capacity, but it sounds like the coach is pretty capable as loaded.  So you went from a compression brake to an exhaust brake, or did they put a Jake on that long chassis-ed C9?

Good luck finding the ice dispenser... out of curiosity because we have the same fridge (ice only, no water), I spent some time searching for one in case ours ever broke like the one in our GE here at home did.  The icemaker is everywhere, a Frigidaire built unit I think.  But the dispenser/bin seems specific to the 1402.  I've admired our 1402 for its ability, lack of problems, capacity, and features over other models I've had and seen, and there's none of the issues that so many have with Norcolds in recent years.  My only disappointment is they quit making it for some reason, so an essential part like this is apparently so suddenly rare.  I'm hoping that fellow I posted a link to can offer some guidance for you.
