We lost the Carefree patio awning on our 2007 Contessa in a high wind a month or so ago. The arms came completely off; luckily no one was injured. The shop that did the repair told me that Monaco had installed the awning just into the sidewall, not into studs, which led to it not holding when the wind hit it. (We apparently had developed a problem with the catch that held the awning closed.) You might want to check that your awning is securely attached.
