roof top air conditioner filters.
« on: July 18, 2016, 02:57:40 PM »
I have now owned my 1999 Marquis Jasper for one year and have seldom used the roof top AC.  I am planning an extended road trip during late July and August and after following the great advice I receive on this forum, I have decided to clean the three (3) roof top AC's, including the filters, before departing.  Removing the covers topside and cleaning what is on top the coach seems like a  breeze but I cant figure out how to access the filters from within the coach.  According to information I have gleaned from this forum, it appears that only way to access the filters is from within the coach.   Because this is a duct'd system, to do so, it appears that I must remove at least the wood panels, if not more, on the ceiling of the coach in the living room, bathroom and bedroom but that seems like a pretty major project to perform a regular maintenance function that requires more than one person.  Is there a short cut to access the filters or must I recruit some neighborhood muscle to accomplish this mission?  Heaven only knows when the last time any AC filters were cleaned.  I thought it best to ask before I start tearing things apart only to find out I am doing it wrong.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Rick,

Not sure if your arrangement is the same but most of the time there is some kind of wooden grate maybe 15 by 15 inches that has wood plugs and screws in it. Pull the plugs and unscrew the grate, the filter is above it. There may be other arrangements but these units require an air intake and then a duct-ed set of outlets. Look where the intakes are.
