TGO (the Great Outdoors) is an RV park with many active BAC members and retired Beavers home basing here.
We just want to let everyone know we are all OK.
The hurricane took a wobble east and went around the Cape (huge sand barrier island). There is magic and legend about the Cape and it's influence on the weather. Anyway the primary band (the dangerous band) near the center missed us. We had sustained winds of only 35-40 mph and gusts to 50-60 mph.
Mostly we sustained no damage. A few shingles are missing or some plastic pieces are missing on some houses and lots of debris down (mostly dead palm fronds and boots) A few trees are leaning and several are leaning on houses.
Biggest problem is electricity and businesses slow to reopen. Although we did have mail delivery on Saturday. We had water and sewer the entire time during the hurricane. Our electric on our road was only out for 18 hours.
Peter and I went to Orlando on Saturday on Hwy 50 and it's open and clear. Orlando had little or no damage.
So if anyone is returning to TGO go down I-75 and then take toll roads around Orlando to Hwy 50. That's a clear shot.
For those of you who do not know TGO is on the mainland of Florida. The real danger in Florida during a hurricane is on the barrier islands and low lying areas for flooding and storm surge. Cocoa Beach, Melbourne Beach, Satellite Beach are all on barrier islands. Florida officials had a mandatory evacuation for all the barrier islands. In our county, they closed the bridges, shut off the water and sewer to those islands. Most people heeded the warnings and we had no fatalities in our county.
So the sunshine is back and we are slowly returning to normal.
Hugs, from TGO, Connie Bradish
