Old Girl sagging celing
« on: January 20, 2017, 12:02:01 AM »
The slideout trim boad is (was) scraping against the A/C celing trim, the point of contact is in the middle (center) of the slideout trim board. Shop showed me that the celing was not level, but was sagging, by using a long straightedge. They were able to use another 'notch' in the latch on the A/C trim to raise the trim a bit so the slideout will clear. Anyone have this problem? Any fix? Is the sky falling?
Thanks

Is the ceiling sagging or just the vinal or whatever covering it has?

The celing structure (not known) must be sagging and that causes the A/C trim to sag. The shop tech held a 8' straight edge against the celing and it showed about a max 1" of sag. I don't know what the celing structure is, so I don't yet know how to fix it.

Bill
I have been trying to recall more specifics from a graphic I have seen on roof construction but it applied to Safari era coaches so would be suspect in Monaco era.
I believe it is 7 layers;
inside ceiling covering
veneer plywood
plastic
framing with poly styrene insulation
plastic
veneer plywood
fiberglass roof

Unless the veneer plywood has detached in some fashion I don't know how the ceiling would sag.  Is there decorative trim around the ceiling lights like a long wood trim board?  Perhaps pulling a piece of that down might provide insight as to what is failing.  Shooting from the hip I might guess failed glue due to moisture build up inside the coach.

Bill,

See that you have a 05 Patriot, so not sure if this suggestion might help with your ceiling makeup question and further ceiling sag debug....

There is a 04 Patriot brochure in the Private Members Area, under the Coach Assist item, that on pg 21, it shows the material layer stack up for the 2004 Patriot roof system.   Others might know better as to how close the 04 and the 05 Patriot's roofs were assembled.
