What would this leak be?
« on: June 27, 2017, 02:38:52 AM »
First major problem with new to us 2002 Contessa.  Have a fluid leak coming from the driver side front wheel area.  Looks like a large black hose is leaking a brownish fluid.  In the pics I am looking straight up, next to the driver front tire.  It is a very wide hose.  Could it be fluid to move the slides or part of the leveling system?

Fuel fill hose?  Depending on the year, some will rot.

I took a bucket out to catch the drips and the first few seemed to be clear!  Might have looked brown due to being on the dirty street when I touched it.  So perhaps fuel, are the hoses really wide going to the fuel tank?  The hose does rise up towards where the driver fuel cap is located.  We just filled up yesterday and didn't drive too far after so it is full.  I'll have to check for a similar hose on the passenger side fuel fill.

Took the flashlight out and and had a closer look.  This is exactly what it is!  Seems to be leaking right around where it first curves down from the fill opening then it is dripping from the low point along the hose behind the tire.

Andrew
Looks like that hose is about 1 inch diameter?
This is just a suggestion.
I believe the fuel fill hose is about 2 inch diameter but this could be the vent tube off the fill tube.  We filled up one time and then parked on a slight slant and the fuel backed up the fill tube on the slanted side.
If the fuel cap is above a narrow piece of basement siding it might be that you can unscrew the underside and lift the skirting to reveal the fill tube assembly.  Our 98 was like that.

I'm going to take a closer look this weekend.  The hose looks to be in good shape where I can see it.  This was only the 2nd time I filled it since we got it and the first time I drove further afterward before parking.
