Replacement for Sharp R-1870
« on: July 05, 2017, 01:45:11 AM »
My Sharp R-1870 Micro/Convection just died. What is the replacement for this unit?
Is there a replacement that fits the same cutout and uses the same brackets ?
Any info/recommendations appreciated,

If you do a search here for GE Convection Ovens, I believe others have replaced the Sharp with a GE that fits, although I don't know the model #. I think Joel Ashley, who is a frequenter of this forum, is one of those, so he may chime in.

Stan, I think you meant Joel Weiss.  Our Sharp is still okay... not as good perhaps as our 22 year-old Sharp in the house, but still okay.

I know, too many ding dong Joels around here ;) . (That was me chimeing)

   Hi Darrell,
The GE profile will fit but here are a few things to consider. The blower assembly mounted at the top rear is designed to be oriented to blow vertical, horizontal or recirculating back thru the front. On all the installations I have done, I have added the outside chrome Splendide dryer vent thru the side wall and reoriented the blower to exhaust to the outside. The Ladies love this because there is no more hot air blowing back into the coach along with the smell of the food you are cooking.
You will have to use the GE mounting bracket, drill new holes thru the overhead shelf and an extra set of hands to assist.
 Hope this helps, Fred

Thanks everyone for your responses and links. It appears GE is the only choice as other brands require exterior venting or are larger in height or depth.  Thanks Fred, not sure I'm ready to cutout the shelf above or add another exterior hole but I appreciate the advice.

I installed a Samsung convection microwave. It fit perfectly.  Vents inboard or outside and uses a simple back support as well as the cabinets above.
