Slide issue?
« on: March 17, 2018, 06:27:38 PM »
Whenever I press the switch for the large slide up front, the bottom pushes out first about 8 inches and the top seems to be stuck in place. The top eventually pops out and the slide then pushes out to full extension. Is something wrong here or is this somewhat normal?

Fred,

I think that cleaning the seals will help your problem.  You should also check the matching edge at the top of slide for anything that may cause the slide to stick on the seal.

Thanks Karl.  We are still on track for the trip to Florida 28 March... about 800 miles for us.  We will be staying on Tyndall AFB FamCamp.  Are you retired?  Maybe we can link up.  Fred

Fred, you also might check your paint lines to see if they match up and check the slide when closed to observe any air gaps at the top or bottom of the slide. You can adjust the slide height if it is binding. Hopefully the slide seal lubrication will solve your issue. Good luck.

Fred,

Yes, I am retired (although, it depends on who you ask).  Just give me a shout and we can meet somewhere halfway between us.  It is about 57 miles from Panama City to Niceville (Bluewater Bay).  Traffic on Hwy 98 will be the biggest problem for both of us.  Are you familiar with this area of Florida?

Ha! Good answer concerning retirement.  I am not very familiar with the area  I have been to Eglin and Tyndal Air AFB one time each for a couple weeks, testing new equipment for the Army.  We will have the Beaver PT parked at Tyndal AFB. I was hoping that maybe we could link up to get a few pointers on the coach. I see where you owned one for 12 years.  I will make contact by end of next week. You have already provided great input on this forum. Thanks!

Hi Fred, I was stationed at Eglin AFB for 7 years while in the Air Force. I was an F-15 inspector from 1982-1989.

Hey LaMonte... this is  A coincidence. I worked at McDonald Douglas in St. Louis in the early 70s and we manufactured the F-15.  I hope we made them to your satisfaction! LOL

Ok guys, I am going to make this really weird...  I was born and raised in St. Louis, left for college and returned in 1974 to work in a family business that manufactured parts for the F-15.  My son continues in that business (www.stroco.com) to this day.  Now live next to Eglin AFB with F-15's flying in the sky above our house.

Karl,
When we are on our way to Clearwater from home, we always stay in Santa Rosa Beach, Arnett's Gulfside Trailrides (a dude ranch) that has 15 RV sites. We hear your F-15s.

How do you clean the seals, and or lubricate what areas with what product?
Thanks

Tom,
See the slide maintenance video in the Video Link post in the Private Members Only board. http://beaveramb.org/forum/index.php/topic,5632.0.html
I also use baby/talcum powder as a lubricant.

Tom we use T-9 on the slide rams and rollers. For the slide seals we use 303 to keep the seals flexible and supple. Both product's are available at Camping World. Also clean the bottom of your slides to reduce resistance.
