Battery Connections 05 Beaver Monterrey
« on: May 13, 2018, 11:14:05 PM »
New to the forum and searched for this topic but didn't find anything.  I don't normally do something this "not wise" but it is causing a problem and I have to admit my fault.  The motorhome will crank but not start.

I removed and replaced the chassis batteries from the coach but forgot to write down where the four white wires were connected to the batteries.  I have the main connections correct but the four white wires (large gauge) connection point is unknown.  Can anyone explain what the four wires are for and how they might be connected?

Alan,
Is there is labeling the wires? Most of the white wires are labeled.

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing when I replaced my starting batterys. My coach would turn over but not start. When I reinstalled the battles I shorted one of the connection and blew the fuse to ECU on the engine. Check all the fuses you can find. In my case I could not find the fuse so it was necessary to run a new wire with an inline fuse to the ECU. If you have to do that contact Dave Atherton to find out which wire to tap into. Hope it's just a burnt fuse. Hope this helps

Ha ha. Been there, done that! Here are a couple pictures from my '05 Monterey battery compartment - chassis side - in case it's not too late.

Alan, in Bill's top picture on the left is a stainless steel box with 5 black covers. You'll find the fuses to your ecm under the black covers.

On my 05 Monterey, those four smaller wires go to the negative post.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the white wires in Bill's picture are attached to the negative post.

I'm going to go out and check the connections.  Too bad I didn't ask the forum before I told my wife :)

Thanks All!!! The info was right on and the Monte started right up.  Boy do I feel like a "less than smart" old guy right now.  At least I didn't have it hauled into an RV repair shop :)

Allen:
On my 05 there are 4 white wires.
3 go to ground and the 4th goes to positive. The positive is a single wire #12 inside a flexible cover. There is another single white wire but is of a large size #10 that goes to negative. The remaining 2 are to gather in a covering and go to negative.
There is a removable panel below the transmission selector that is where the ICM is located. There are two blade fuses on it, one of them is probably blown.
good luck

Also for others who might have this problem, the white wires are not labeled on the battery end.  There are two that are in one wire covering and the other two are in separate wire covers.  I'm not getting my HWH to run, so it may be linked to an incorrect connection.
