White smoke on startup

Just curious, on starting the engine up I get a big puff of white smoke and then no smoke at all. I have the Cat 3116 engine S/N 7SF12160. When I called local Cat Dealer about some parts the S/N did not show up. Thanks

Could just be condensation in the exhaust pipe. Once the exhaust heats up the moisture evaporates and the smoke is no longer visible. That's pretty common on cool mornings.
Or could be some tiny amount of coolant leaking into cylinder head while engine is shut off. Do you see any drop in coolant level?

No drops in the coolant level, it runs pretty darn good for being 27 years old

Jason, the white smoke with Cat 3116 is normal and nothing to worry about. The white smoke
should clear out around 5 minute. Dave Atherton Retired Cat Mechanic

Jason, We had a 1991 Contessa with the 3116 CAT and used to get black smoke as we accelerated. Had CAT reset fuel lower and then back up to normal settings and it did not help with smoke. Dave is correct, just drive on.
