2004 Thunder left rear slide motor magnet
« on: November 11, 2019, 03:09:17 AM »
I am looking for a thread published here a few years ago that I can not find. My rear slide has been working in and out with some problems. Push the switch and nothing then rock the switch back and forth and it would eventually work. This was for in and out both. I replaced the switch and still the same. I then replaced the relay and still the same. I found that if I lifted the bed up and had my wife push the switch and I tapped the motor with a small screw driver handle it would work. So I thought maybe brushes in the motor. I took it to a local small electric motor repair facility and he checked it out. Brushes good and armature good. Works flawlessly on the bench including the magnetic brake release. He said maybe low voltage supplied to inputs. Back at the moho and I have 14.4 volts at both the in and out terminals. So, I installed the motor. Still same same. So, I backed off the wing nuts on the magnetic brake to disengage it and the slide runs in and out like it should. Trouble is, I test the brake all on it's own from 12 volts and it works fine. Hook it back up to the motor and no joy. It seems to me several years ago I saw a thread here that addressed this problem. If anyone could point me in the correct direction or have any input on this subject it would be appreciated.
Thanks Marty

Marty,
If this isn't it, do a search on "motor brake".  http://beaveramb.org/forum/index.php/topic,7514.msg52687.html#msg52687

I have to clean the motor brake on mine every 6-9 months or so.  Pretty easy job.  I use CRC electronics cleaner.  Take it off with 2 or 3 screws, spray it down inside and out, put it back in and it works for another 6-9 months or so.  Worse part is moving the mattress out of the way to get under it.  On the up side, the first few times I cleaned it, it was every 4 months.  Now it's at longer intervals.  Good luck.

Thank you for the replies. I am going to try cleaning the magnet and a more positive connection like soldering the wires. Marty

Marty, check the stop switches also. I had to put a washer behind mine because they had worn enough that when the bumper hit them, they would give just enough that the switch would not stay engaged. I still have to raise the bed occasionally and tap the stop switch in order to get the slide to move.
