Front slide will not extend
« on: November 17, 2021, 11:20:04 PM »
Just completed a 2000 mile round tire and the front slide worked flawlessly. Now that we are at home, I have been trying to extend the front slide and it will not go out. I push the button and nothing happens, no motor or hydraulic sound. The bedroom slide (electric) still works fine. Anyone know what could be wrong with the front slide?

  Fred,
If you look in the front electrical compartment under the drivers side window, you will find some circuit breakers identified for the slide room. Not sure if your ignition is on if it "locks out" the slide room switch. I would start there and then check for 12 volt present at the HWH pump relay mounted on the pump. One 5/16" stud with a battery cable is 12volt the other stud is the power to the pump motor. Fred

Our slides are locked out when the key switch is in the ON position.  Our coach is a 2004 Marquis.

Fred C,

On my 02’ Marquis, there is a relay in the front run bay, back wall, upper left corner, that controls the front slide. I believe it is the second one from the left, if memory serves me. The wiring schematic on the inside of the door should confirm it's location. Hope this helps.

OK, I checked the electrical compartment under the drivers window. Everything looks fine in there. There is no breaker switch anywhere to be seen. There are relays and identified the slide relay but it appears to be fine. When pressing the out button for the slide I can hear clicking in the compartment. I thought maybe it could be low hydraulic fluid but if that were true I should still hear the motor running when pushing the button, right?  Is there anything else I should be checking?

Fred,

The clicking you are hearing is possibly the relay failing, not passing the current to the slide pump. I would replace the relay, being careful to get all wires back in the proper place. Also, the SMC leveling system uses the same pump to operate the levelers. Does the pump run when leveling? If it does, then the pump is working properly. If it doesn’t, then there is a relay on the pump that might be failing. Hope this helps.

Well, I just tried using the levelers and the pump does not work. The levelers worked just the other day. Does that mean the pump motor is not working and it went bad? Or maybe there is a fuse going directly to the pump?

Fred,

There is a relay on top of the pump. On my 02’ Marquis, the pump is located under the entryway steps. I assume on the 02’ PT, it is located in the same place. Check to see if the trigger wire on the hydraulic pump solenoid is getting power when the slide switch or the leveling sequence is activated. If the trigger wire on the hydraulic pump solenoid is getting power, then the solenoid is bad. At this point, you can jump the two larger terminals on the solenoid, if pump works, then solenoid is bad. If pump does not work, then pump is bad. Also, make sure all terminals are tight. Be careful when tightening big terminals or jumping solenoid, one side is hot and will arc if grounded. Hope this helps

    Fred,
The solenoid mounted to the curved part of the HWH hydraulic pump is the relay that activates the pump whether you are moving the room or extending the jacks. It is a common failure on coaches that get used. I have replaced at least 8 that I can recall. Do what Frank suggested, take an old screw driver and touch the 2 - 5/16 threaded studs and if the motor runs, then more than likely the solenoid is bad. The 2 small connections on the solenoid is the coil that activates the solenoid. one is the ground connection. the other you can check with a 12volt test light. It will light up when the room extend switch is pushed. Hope this helps, Fred

Fred,

If you are sure the solenoid is bad, the best thing to do is remove and then match up at Napa or a trailer parts house. Dump trailers use a similar hydraulic pump solenoid. Whatever the case, you should be able to locate one with a little leg work or some research on line. Hope this helps.

   Fred,
This one is continuous duty, Cole-Hersee, and will work if you can identify the small 18 gage "ground" wire and run it to the mounting bracket.
