Fuel gauge
« on: November 06, 2022, 02:48:42 PM »
Yesterday we were finishing up a 3 month trip . Only a thousand miles . Just before I stopped to fill up my tank , I noticed the fuel gauge bouncing around . Then not much longer and it was reading a hard full, pegged out, and that’s before I added 47 gallons of fuel because I always top my tank off after a trip . Does anyone know where I should start my troubleshooting ? Is there a fuse maybe? I really don’t want to have to drain the tank to work on the sending unit . Thanks for all your help . 2000 Beaver Patriot Ticonderoga, 3126 330 caterpillar .

Scott
Your problem is likely the the connections at the sending unit in the tank .
They can be accessed on the driver's side on the side of the fuel tank
There is also an article on how to diagnose the fuel gauge in the older section of the coach assist
Follow manuals for older beavers 1974 1994  then click on the 3 bars at the top left this will take you to a drop down  menu
From there pick Safari motor coach 1994 2001and from the next menu look under misc diagrams and fixes
There you find many articles on the safari era you will also find a memorandum explaining the fuel guage diagnostics.

Hope this helps

I had the exact same problem with fuel gauge bouncing around. I crawled under the coach for a good look at the tank and noticed a ground wire dangling on the side. So I attached it to the frame and the gauge is back to normal. Hope this helps.
