Yes, my idea was and remains to remove the decorative shroud from around the sides and over the back of the TV. That will permit access to all the TV lift's workings inside the outer metal framework, e.g., the motor, the arm between the motor and the inner frame holding the TV, the wiring, the "black box", etc. The shroud is held onto the outer metal frame by a few screws and is easy to remove/replace.
The "black box" is about the size of a small loaf of bread. I suspect the black box holds a latching switch or some similar electrical device that reverses the motor from lifting the TV to descending it, and vice versa. There also may be a circuit board in the black box. I did not look inside the black box because it was apparent the stops for determining the upmost and down most positions of the TV had moved out of their proper position. It was several years ago when I was looking inside the shroud at the metal framework and the equipment there.
