day/nightime shade switch
« on: October 17, 2023, 02:37:36 AM »
My daytime shade quit working. I have a replacement switch and tried to install it but fouled up somehow keeping track of proper wring locations. Does anyone have a schematic of the proper wiring order connections. 04 Marquis.

Robert,
Are there labels on the wires? if so they may help in determining the proper hookup. Also, the part # of the switch will help ID the switch internal layout. I couldn't find any circuit diagram in Coach Assist.

No labels on the wire.  It's a Carling VLD1   other markings are Mexico 0534 and patent 5105059

Robert,
My guess is that you have 3 or 6 wires connected to the switch. 1 or 2 of the wires will have 12v (or possibly ground) on them all the time. Use a meter to ID this/these wires. These 1 or 2 wires go to the  center switch terminal(s). The other 2 or 4 wires supply power to the shade motor(s). The easiest way to tell which is which is to attach the 1 or 2 12v or ground wires to the center switch terminal (s). Then attach one of the remaining wires to an unused switch terminal (with the center terminals hooked up) and activate the switch first one way, then the other. The shade(s) should move either up or down. Try the remaining 1 or 3  wires on the other unused terminal on the same side of the switch until you id the wire that moves the same shade in the opposite direction. Leave those wires hooked up and try the others on the other side of the switch until you get the same movement direction. If you want/need to change the direction of travel (e.g. pressing the up portion of the switch to make the shade(s) move up) simply reverse the 2 wires on the appropriate side of the switch.
Hope this helps.

   Robert,
Are the shades "MCD"? If so, sometimes they loose their memory. If that is the case, you may need to reprogram them. If you look at the end of the shade up where it mounts, try to find the mini momentary switch dangling down going to the shade you are addressing. (day shade is the one you can see thru). Hold that switch down until you hear 3 "beeps" then release that switch. You are now in program mode. Operate the control switch downward and let go of the switch when it reaches the desired down location. Then momentarily hit the switch upward and let go of the switch. This sets the memory of the shade so it knows the extended limit. Next retract the shade and stop at the desired height upwards and let go of the switch. Next, momentarily hit the switch "downward" and let go. This sets the upward limit memory of the shade. Test the operation up and down. Hope this helps. Fred
