1999 Patriot Ticonderoga ( brake part numbers)
« on: December 29, 2024, 04:52:08 PM »
Greetings to all, I have a model year 99 with a 98 build date (ABS). I have discovered a melted wheel sensor and damaged rotor on left rear, which needs to be addressed. I'm trying to locate available part numbers for the rotor, caliper, pads, slack adjuster and wheel sensor, before I start the job. I also will replace all the soft brake lines (I have the part numbers). I've spent considerable time searching for these items, but the part numbers listed in "Coach assist" are hard to find and do not mention if the 98's have ABS. I live in a remote location and was hoping to gather parts prior to disassembly. Thanks in advance to any willing to help.

Your coach should be equipped with air over hydraulic disc  brakes or hydraulic over hydraulic disc brakes if it is air over hydraulic the following post thread should help.

Be aware the part numbers for the rotors may not be abs compatible but all these parts are medium duty truck parts that where used on international 3800 series and Ford F750 medium duty trucks .
A good parts man should be able to match up what you need.

A search here on the forum should return many brake posts , just vet through the ones that are relevant for your year and model coach.

Hi Eric, Thank you for your assistance. I updated my coach info as you suggested. It is air over hydraulic, but I'm trying to figure out which year they changed over to ABS. Then I just need to verify that the parts are interchangeable, Pre-ABS and ABS. I sincerely appreciate your input. Worse case scenario, I just pull it apart and match up the casting and/or part numbers. I'm just waiting for the results of the oil analysis report before I decide how deep I want to wade into this project...

Brian,
The info you are looking for is probably in the Beaver Chassis section located in Coach Assist on the Club website. Log in, select Technical, then Coach Assist.

Like many of the Beaver/Magnum chassis the up grade and changes were made mid production year and there fore there is no actual cutoff date for change over.
How ever the ABS seems to have been added in the late 1998 model year.
with abs there will be added parts, an ABS controller, modulator valves for each wheel , speed sensors and tone rings at each wheel apart from that the system should remain the same
The parts for the ABS system should be common Wabco off the shelf items ,the rotors will be the same with the addition of the tone ring cast into the back of them .
Talk to you local parts supply, give them the numbers I supplied and tell them you want the ABS version of those rotors .
Its been a while now but if I remember rightly there are only two different ABS wheel speed sensors a straight and a right angle they each pushes into a slip collar  there are different length wire leads depending on application you can always use a longer cable .
Depending on how badly melted the wheel speed sensor is it should be possible to pull it blackout of the spring slip collar.
When you replace the sensor it is important that the wheel bearings are adjusted properly and then the sensor simply pushes in until it contacts the tone ring there is no need to set the air gap as the rotation of the wheel and the movement of the wheel bearings will move the sensor back to create the proper air gap
If the wheel bearing are too loose the extra movement will create too wide an air gap and the sensor reading will be intermittent or drop out.
When you order your new or remanufactured brake calipers make sure they sell you ones with steel pistons not phenolic pistons as the phenolic one tend to absorb moisture overtime and swell causing the caliper to stick and drag.
